The annual gathering of legal technology geeks is taking place this year in Las Vegas. The setting is quite appropriate, given the ever increasing payouts, and the accompanying risk, that advancements in legal technology bring.
Although the conference officially started on Sunday, Monday was the first day of substantial educational presentations. Topics ranged from ways to better manage legal office software systems, learning how to communicate technical functions to non technical staff, and introducing Windows 10, with its new set of IT headaches.
One particular track on day 1 dealt with information management in the law firm. Topics were varied, and included how to rein in the information mess so that it’s in a format that can actually be managed, building an information governance management team, and discussing whether law firms should be at the forefront of promoting information governance to their clients. The different viewpoints raised some interesting discussions.
Monday evening saw the grand opening of the vendor hall, replete with vendors dressed in “Once Upon a Time” costumes.
Stay tuned for Tuesday’s report tomorrow.
