MT>3 has been a division of McCarthy Tétrault since January 2017.

McCarthy Tétrault proudly celebrates success at the 2018 FT Innovative Lawyers Awards North America gala held on December 10 in New York City. In its ninth year, the awards highlight top innovators within the North American legal profession.

The firm was named Most Innovative Law Firm in Canada, affirming our continuous commitment to fostering innovation and success by leading an agile organization in a fast-moving market, and strategically aligning ourselves with the needs of clients by:

  •  Being the firm of choice for industry-leading lawyers;
  •  Leveraging automation and creative pricing solutions to benefit clients; and
  •  Breaking ground in emerging and dynamic industries.

“Innovation of our service delivery and business offerings is central to our firm strategy and at the core of who we are, and what we believe in,” said Matthew Peters, National Innovation Leader and Partner. “To meet the existing and prospective needs of clients, we will continue to offer compelling legal and business services, delivering greater value more efficiently and quickly.”

The firm was also recognized in the category of Innovation in Collaboration. McCarthy Tétrault collaborated with tax authorities and Uber to devise and execute Tax Compliance Agreements. The Agreements allow platforms to leverage their information and payment processing technologies to shoulder some of the tax responsibilities usually placed on individual Uber drivers. The Uber agreement was the first ever entered into by a Canadian taxpayer. Recognized by the Québec government as an integral part of its ongoing strategy for the sharing economy, no other law firm or counsel provides this solution.

In addition to receiving these awards, CEO Dave Leonard was shortlisted for Canadian Legal Leader, and the firm was shortlisted for Innovation in Legal Expertise – Canada.

Clients are at the centre of everything we do. McCarthy Tétrault aims to deliver strategic and innovative legal and business solutions for our clients, wherever their business takes them. Our culture is collaborative, inclusive, entrepreneurial and evolves with the pace of business. We offer sophisticated legal and business advice that incents efficiency, leverages our deep industry knowledge, and our national resources for an exceptional service experience that solves our clients’ most complex problems.
